History of the Lodge

The Golden Eagle Lodge was built in the mid-1960's by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stults. They were from Richardson, Texas and enjoyed their time in Red River; they built the Golden Eagle so they could live in Red River full time and earn a living. They operated the excellent Lodge until 1975 when they sold it to Eddie and Barbara Dry. Eddie Dry was a professor at Baylor University in Waco, TX and had been taking church groups to Red River for several years. Eddie and his wife Barbara decided they would like to live full time in Red River and purchased the Golden Eagle. They operated the Lodge for several years. Eddie developed expertise in tourism and began teaching at the University of New Mexico in the 1980's; they employed managers to operate the Lodge during this time.

In 1997, the Drys decided to consolidate their investments in Albuquerque and sold the Lodge to Jim Truitt and Richard Scott, both on the faculty at Baylor University and former employers of Eddie Dry. Truitt and Scott immediately began a complete renovation of the Golden Eagle. They continue to upgrade the grand Lodge. During the tenure of their ownership, they have leased the Lodge to the capable and caring operators Genie and George O'Neal to help build upon the Golden Eagle Lodge's rich heritage.
